Prior to independence, Africa Sports (founded in April 1947 as CS Bété, renamed September 1948) were runners-up in the championship of Abidjan in 1948/49, 1949/50, 1950/51, 1952/53, 1954/55 and 1957/58, and champions of Abidjan in 1951/52, 1953/54 and 1955/56 (in the last year they also won the championship of Ivory Coast). In 1954/55 the Abidjan champions were ASEC.
