The Ladies PGA Tour (Ladies Professional Golf Association)

 The Ladies PGA Tour (Ladies Professional Golf Association) was founded at a meeting in New York late 1949 by a committee of thirteen women (Alice Bauer, Patty Berg, Betty Danoff, Helen Dettweiler, Marlene Bauer Hagge, Opal Hill, Betty Jameson Sally Sessions, Marilynn Smith, Shirley Spork, Louise Suggs and Babe Zaharias). Helen Hicks, winner of the U.S. Women's Amateur in 1931 and a member of Team USA for the first Curtis Cup, there was not, but all signed memorandums of agreement necessary for the founding of the LPGA. Its first president was the great golfer Patty Berg replaced shortly after by Louise Suggs. The LPGA started in 1950 offers eleven tournaments with total earnings amounting to $ 45 000.

Grand Slam
The female Grand Slam consists of four majors: the LPGA, U.S. Open, the Weetabix British Open (the Du Maurier Classic before 2001) and the Nabisco Championship. Two other tournaments were once part of the Grand Slam: the Titleholders Championship (from 1937 to 1972) and the Western Open (from 1930 to 1967).

The Grand Slam women

is composed of four majors: the LPGA, U.S. Open, the Weetabix British Open (the Du Maurier Classic before 2001) and the Nabisco Dinah Shore Championship. Two other tournaments were once part of the Grand Slam: the Titleholders Championship (from 1937 to 1972) and the Western Open (from 1930 to 1967).

Six players have managed to win four tournaments (not in the same year): Mickey Wright U.S. (completed in 1962), Louise Suggs USA (1957), U.S. Pat Bradley (1986), Julie Inkster USA (1999) Karrie Webb AUS (2001) and Annika Sörenstam SWE (2003).

Three players have managed to win three tournaments in a single year: Babe Zaharias in 1950 USA (Grand Slam behaved then three tournaments U.S. Open and LPGA Titleholders), Mickey Wright U.S. in 1961 (LPGA, U.S. Open and Titleholders) and U.S. Pat Bradley in 1986 (Nabisco and LPGA du Maurier Classic).

Thirteen players have won two tournaments in a year: Patty Berg USA, ENG Laura Davies, Sandra Haynie USA, USA Julie Inkster, Betsy King USA, USA Meg Mallon, Se Ri Pak CDS, Betsy Rawls USA, Annika Sörenstam, Louise Suggs USA , Karrie Webb AUS, USA Kathy Whitworth and Mickey Wright USA.

Note

: In 1974, Sandra Haynie has completed the Grand Slam after winning the U.S. Open and the LPGA Championship. At that time and that for ten seasons, the Grand Slam had only two tournaments.

The annual awards:

-  Order of Merit instituted in 1950

-  LPGA player of the Year(Player of the Year, Rolex Player of the Year) Award by the LPGA since 1966

- Rookie of the Year (Best newcomer of the year) awarded by the LPGA since 1962. The winner receives the Louise Suggs Trophy.

The Vare Trophy has been awarded since 1953 by the LPGA golfer who has achieved the highest average score on a year on the PGA Tour (70-laps).

Four men and a woman have accomplished the feat of completing a course in less than 60 strokes for a par 72 by scoring  59: Al  Geiberger USA in 1977, Chip Beck USA in 1991 and David Duval USA in 1999, Adrien Mörk FRA in 2006 (2nd round of Marroccan Classic) and the only woman, the Swede Annika Sörenstam in 2001!

Annika Sörenstam beat several other major female record: the lowest total (-27) and the highest score on a 36-hole (124), both in 2001 that the highest score on a 54-hole (-24) in 2004.

Sixteen players in history have managed to make a card to 60 players including four Europeans: Jamie Spence ENG in 1992 in Crans-sur-Sierre, Bernhard Langer ALL in 1997 in Berlin, Darren Clark IRL in 1999 Dublin and Ernie Els at Heineken Classic at Royal Melbourne in 2004.
