Modern Pentathlon - Olympic Sports

History

According to Aristotle "the most perfect sport, therefore, for the body of pentathlete strength and speed combine harmoniously.

The modern pentathlon is a sport teacher. Such was the desire of Pierre de Coubertin, the creator.

History

The pentathlon was a combination of five different sports. Baron Pierre de Coubertin, who revived the Olympic Games, wanted a test that can crown the most complete athlete.

Games of Ancient Greece 708 before J. - C., the title most coveted was the winner of the pentathlon. There were five events, four for athletics and a struggle, which took place the same day.

According to the legend: "In the nineteenth century, a young French officer of cavalry was to deliver a message. Party on horseback, he traversed rugged terrain, crossed enemy lines before finding themselves face to face with a soldier, sword unsheathed. On being challenged, the officer emerged victorious to see his horse killed by the enemy. After killing the enemy at one stroke, the officer continued his current mission. He crossed a raging river to swim before finally delivering the message.

Based on a brainchild of Baron Pierre de Coubertin, founder of the modern Olympics, the test based on the unfortunate young officer and was introduced into the Stockholm Games of 1912. This sport is not like that by far the former pentathlon, inspired by warlike Sparta. It therefore renewed with the thread of history in attempting to develop a modern version of the pentathlon.

The modern pentathlete pulls, fights with a sword, swims, does an obstacle course on horseback and ran five events testing endurance and athletic versatility.

The International Federation

(94 members) was created in 1948 by Olympic champion in 1920, the Swede Gustaf Dyrssen. Before the modern pentathlon was managed by the International Olympic Committee.

The modern pentathlon and Olympism

This is the sport that most accurately conveys the ideals of Olympism. The first presentation of this spectacular event took place at the Olympic Games in Stockholm in 1912. Until the 1996 Games, competitions ranged over five consecutive days at a rate of one test per day, in the following order: horse riding, fencing, swimming, shooting and Running (cross - country). Since 2000, it takes place on a day in order: shooting, fencing, swimming, riding and running. Women participate in world championships since 1981 and the Games since 2000.
