G-force
Gravitational force that holds the sled and athletes on the wall of a banked turn. A G is equal to the force of gravity.
Kufens
Fibreglass runners attached to steel blades at the front of the luge allowing the slider to steer. The sled is steered by applying pressure to these.
Labyrinth
A stretch of sliding track made up entirely of a series of left and right curves with no straight section in between. The labyrinth at The Whistler Sliding Centre is at curves 12, 13 and 14.
Lip
A protective barrier at the top of the sliding track that prevents the sled from going off course.
Lose Your Head
When a competitor’s head is pulled back onto the ice by high G-forces.
Crank
To use particularly hard pressure to steer a sled.
Mind Run
Visualization of the track typically done before taking a run.
Luger
A luge athlete. More often referred to as a slider.
Omega
A curve on the track shaped like the Greek letter Omega. It is the combination of three curves.
Paddle
Using spiked gloves, it is the action a slider uses after the start to propel themselves forward.

A luge competitor, less commonly referred to as a luger.
